In a move that will encourage quality research at the institution, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and State University of New York (SUNY) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during BHU vice chancellor Prof. GC Tripathi’s recent week-long visit to USA.
The BHU VC and President of University at Buffalo, Prof. Satish Tripathi who is also BHU alumnus, were instrumental in formulating the agreement between the two universities. The MoU facilitates bilateral academic relationships, cooperative research as well as student and teacher exchange programmes.
Talking to reporters on Sunday, BHU VC said, “Research is extremely important for growth of any university. At SUNY Buffalo, the administration has laid emphasis not only on research but also on the impact research and teaching has on the community.The MoU is a comprehensive one but focuses a great deal on research and its impact on the community. The BHU administration has also constituted a teaching and research monitoring committee on the same lines”. During his visit, BHU VC also met professors at University of Maryland to explore the possibilities of academic agreements and collaborations.
On his trip Tripathi also addressed the a gathering of BHU alumni during the centenary global meet at Santa Clara in California on September 17.He urged the alumni to come forward with ideas on how the BHU should restructure the educational model .
